I do corporate trade shows for a living, and as a lover of the environment, it sickens me to see the waste--from the giveaways that people take home and throw away to the trash that is left behind at the venue. After 20 years in the biz, people's love of 'junk' never ceases to amaze me--they'll take anything that's not nailed down! I will say that thanks to the economy, the number of wasteful giveaways has gone down over the last several years and reuable shopping bags have gone up in popularity (although when you attend 10+ trade shows a year--how many bags can you really use??). I also see trade show management jumping on the 'green' bandwagon--providing conference programs online rather than in big books of paper, ditching the plastic holders for the badges and providing on-site recycling. I do my best to take as little as I can to the show and still make it effective for my company. The industry still has a long way to go, but at least it's on the way. Thanks for putting the issue out there.
