De-garbaging the bathroom can be a hard task, as many of the daily hygiene products we’ve come to rely on come in non-recyclable packaging.  From floss to toothpaste, shampoo to body wash to hair gel, and everything else in between, I think the bathroom has been one of our biggest challenges.  To read about how we handle our bathroom products, read the week 30 blog post here

Then, enter my giveaway for a free bar of Seed Conditioning Hair Shampoo Bar Soap.  A two-in-one product, this is essentially a bar soap you use on your hair as both shampoo and conditioner.  Ever wondered how this stuff works but not wanted to spend the money in case it was a bad investment?  Here’s your chance to try it!

(seed)+ Conditioning Hair Shampoo Bar, Invigorating Citrus Thyme, 3.5-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

The Seed brand bar is made with all natural ingredients, comes packaged in a recyclable cardboard box with no packaging inside, and it is not tested on animals.  To read about this company, use this link.

To enter the contest, leave a comment here or on Facebook explaining one thing you are doing to eliminate trash from your bathroom.  I’ll enter you twice if you come up with something I’m not doing or haven’t thought of yet.  Enter by next Monday night!

  1. cool idea. my curiosity is why they even sell soap in boxes at all – lots of shops you just buy the bar and don’t have anything you need to recycle. interesting concept huh… :)

  2. Im eliminating trash by buying things that can be recycled!

  3. I now only buy products for the bathroom whose containers can be recycled. I still have lots of product that I bought before my eyes were opened so to speak, but so far, I have been able to buy items that I have needed to replace in recycable containers. thanks for “opening my eyes!”

  4. I recently put a cute fabric-lined basket in the bathroom for recyclable materials. It ensures that lots of stuff gets recycled – like toilet paper tubes, boxes, tags, paper wrappers, etc. Plus, it actually looks really nice!

  5. This may seem extreme to some ladies out there, but after tiring of all the hair care waste (time, products and packaging, chemicals, money), I shaved my long hair completely off! I have shaved it every other week for the last 4 years and have never been happier! Shower time is shortened, and my husband loves it. I would love to win this product and try it out. Thanks so much :)

  6. I wanted to add that you can get the crystal rock without the plastic packaging. Wondering if you have come up with anything to replace floss? Been looking myself too but haven’t found too much. Refill your waxing stuff yourself. That is something you can make and there are plenty of recipes online. It doesn’t take long to make and you don’t create anymore trash. Also there is something that you can buy that is actually soap for your mouth. Contain xylitol and mint oil usually but hey I thought it tasted pretty much like toothpaste for the most part. You can get it wrapped in paper to put in your own container (ETSY)just ask at checkout. Maybe I should look into making my own floss :)

  7. I try to make as many of my own products as I can. That way I know exactly what goes into the things I use, where they come from and if I buy ingredients in bulk it works out to be much cheaper! Plus, I get to re-use containers rather than needing to recycle them all the time.

For example: I’ve always been skeptical that deodorant containers can actually be recycled, so I was extra pleased when I began making my own AND realized that the stuff I make works better than anything I have ever used before!
    Here is the recipe: http://www.ehow.com/how_5346692_make-effective-homemade-deodorant.html

Sadly, I have yet to successfully make shampoo or conditioner, so I would really love to try the shampoo bar!
