New giveaway – compostable parchment paper
Okay, as a cook, I’ll admit it’s sometimes been hard to give up: foil, cling wrap, waxed paper, and parchment paper. I mean, sometimes, it’s just nice to have something other than Tupperware to cover food. This stuff, then, has been a lifesaver for me.

Check it out – silicone coated parchment baking paper. I use it when I’m out of Tupperware to wrap things like sandwiches in, though this is rare. It’s really nice to have for baking, especially sticky cookies or the like.
And, lucky you, I have one extra roll to giveaway. The packaging is 100% recyclable cardboard, the paper itself is unbleached, and silicone is derived from sand or quartz, so it is essentially natural, too. The paper is oven or microwave safe. When you’re done with it, the paper can be tossed in the compost pile.
So, all you need to do is leave me a comment telling me how you are eliminating those three substances from your kitchen – cling wrap, foil, and waxed paper. For example, I no longer use waxed paper to cover dishes I reheat in the microwave – I just use another plate.
If you think of something I’m not doing, I’ll enter you twice. Good luck!

I find I haven’t used waxed paper much any more (maybe since I’ve retired?) But I haven’t been aware of UNBLEACHED parchment paper. Will have to be on the lookout. My box of waxed paper is nearly a year old and has quite a bit left. You know I’ve used the parchment for ages. (cookie baking?) Anyway, this gives me something to think about. I do have a Huge roll of plastic wrap that I will use. As you know, we use it in our house. Can’t you just see Papa giving up the plastic wrap??? Oh! My! Have enjoyed your Blog, Amy, and have done a little more recycling and switching of things this past year. Thanks for doing this. I hope you write your book.
By the way–Happy Anniversary to you and Adam!!
i use a cloth napkin to cover things in the microwave, along with wrapping things like sandwiches in the fridge that i know i’ll be eating soon.
Does it count that we only use foil on the traeger pans???!!! (It’s not in the kitchen!) Seriously, wax paper is not an item I use so I’m just left with the dilemna of the cling wrap. I can only say I feel guilty now when I use it but haven’t been as bold as I need to and given it up. It is used less though now that I’m using tupperware/plastic containers for my lunches and leftovers. And we quit a long time ago using any plastic wrap or materials like that in the microwave (even if “they” say you can!) It’s the plate covered with nana’s towels or napkins!!
For wrapping sandwiches, we have these reusable wraps that can be wiped clean. My mother-in-law sewed them for us. The outside is fabric, the inside is durable plastic, and a bit of velcro let you wrap it up nice and tight for lunch. It’s kind of like folding a burrito, I guess. We have had them for years and really like them.
We have recycled our plastic reusable containers with glass containers in various sizes. My daughter and I both use these to take lunch in each day. Several years ago I stopped purchasing paper towels and only use cloth napkins, dishtowels and sponges.
Lastly we purchase the 100% recycled aluminum foil and after using it rinse it and either reuse or recycle.
Thank you for being an inspiration! A few days ago I changed our garbage service to once a month so as to decrease the amount going into the landfill. We will be reading your blog for tips.
We also use cloth napkins to cover things in the microwave. You can never every have too many cloth napkins. I just recently purchaced a whole bunch more at a yard sale. Just found your site, having fun getting inspired.
Instead of wrapping home baked bread in cling-wrap, we just wrap it in a clean dishtowel. Works just as well and also looks good when popped into a basket on the dining room table.
I have eliminated almost all plastics from my kitchen. Leftovers and partially cut veggies (cucs, tomatoes, etc) are stored in glass containers. Open dishes and plates can be covered by other plates or Wrap-n-mats. (Sandwich wraps). I sometimes use the parchment paper you have listed above. Generally to cover sauce exploding items cooking in the microwave (and I use it over and over again – although after reading this site, I’m switching to an old, clean dish cloth) I also use parchement when making marathon batches of cookies at the holidays. I save that sheet and use it again throughout the year. Silicone baking sheets (non paper derived) are also commercially available and can be washed and reused forever. I also use snack bags for lunches, snacks, etc (ReUse It bags are my favorite). I never use waxed paper – don’t have a need for it and don’t use a lot of foil. If I do use it, I use Reynolds Release to line a pan when oven cooking something that will be hard to get off the pan, usually fish. It rinses off easily and can be recycled.
PS – Just found out about your project today and cannot stop reading it – thank you for all the great info!
I can’t even remember the last time that we had cling wrap in the house. We have a reusable cover in the microwave (gift years ago from Grandma) and I use a dish towel to wrap lettuce from the garden and we store cut fruit and veggies cut side down on a small plate in the refrigerator. Grandma also gave me reusable silicone cookie liners many years ago that I use whenever wax paper is called for in baking. Foil is difficult for us to eliminate. I reuse foil often, washing by hand in between uses, but would love to find a better solution.
Why don’t you use waxed paper?
I keep waxed paper in the house to use as a last resort to snack bags or glass storage. After I am done with it I toss it in the compost bin.
The same goes for the waxed paper coverings on sticks of better. Right into the compost bin.
I will have to pick-up some unbleached parchment paper to try.
I don’t know if I have missed out on this giveaway or not, but what a great idea. I bake a lot and use parchment paper often. Even if I don’t win, I am goin gto look this up.
It’s fun being the “weird” sibling that doesn’t use plastic wrap. I’ve acquired a variety of fun things like Snack-Taxi’s, Wrap-n-mat’s, cloth napkins, cotton and mesh produce bags – you name it I’ll give it a shot. When cleaning up after a family meal everyone is looking for foil, plastic wrap and zipper bags. It’s fun to show them my options! Always looking for a great tool, this one looks like a keeper. My kids have even taken to bringing home other kids “garbage” for us to recycle. Now that is “green washed”.
